The PRIMO Kick-off Summer School took place from 29.09.2014 to 10.10.2014 at the University of Hamburg (UHAM) and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA).
Within the Summer School our ESRs had the possibility to get in touch with each other as well as with their supervisors and the PRIMO Management Team. The Summer School started with some general information given by the Management Team, followed by a presentation of each research proposal and a discussion about the exposés.
In a second part the scientists in charge and other invited speakers held lessons about e.g. approaches to power, hegemony, leaderships, the Policies of the BRICS and other rising states as well as basic typologies of regional powers and different approaches to qualitative and quantitative research. There were also two public lectures: one held by Prof. Ummu Salma Bava under the title “Europe and the Emerging Powers: A view from India”, and the second has been held by Prof. Andre Hurrell under the title From a European to a global international society and the implications for the study of power and regions in a multipolar world”.
We thank all participants for very inspiring and constructive two weeks in Hamburg!
